Nirvana – Bleach “20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition” (1989 - 2009)
On November 3, 2009 Sub Pop will reissue Nirvana’s debut Bleach. It will be available as CD or double-LP (on white vinyl like the original) and it will include a never-before-released live performance from 1990.
Jack Endino recorded Nirvana’s debut at Reciprocal Recordings in 1988 and now he has overseen the re-mastering from the original tapes of this 20th Anniversary Edition.
“I remember getting a call from this guy in Aberdeen” the producer recall “who wanted to make a demo with his band which did not have a name or a drummer”.
Endino was so impressed by the band that after the session gave a copy of the tape (which just said “Kurt Cobain and Company” on it) to Sub Pop owner Jonathan Poneman, setting off a historical chain of events.
The back cover of Bleach emphasizes that the album was recorded with a budget of only $500, an expression of the DIY philosophy that fueled grunge and alternative music but that eventually was turned into profitable business cause, you know, deluxe re-issues aren’t very punk.
The included unreleased live recording was performed at the Pine Street Theatre in Portland, Oregon and feature “Love Buzz” “About a Girl” and a cover of The Vaselines’ song “Molly’s Lips”.
Bleach 20th Anniversary Edition will also include a booklet with candid photos of the band not previously released to the public.
This album is a must have in whatever version you will choose.
